       MBC: Unprofessional, Unethical and Anti-patriotic.

It is really shameful to notice the way your MBC news bulletins are broadcast on Radio and TV channels. Your BEST FM Radio launches slogans as 'your best radio channel 24 hours a day’, 'no one knows Bollywood better than us’, etc. Yet, news in Hindustani regarding Tropical Depression FELLENG has not been broadcast whole day of Monday 28 January 2013, except only once in the afternoon. Your news in English at 5 pm did not at all mention FELLENG. Your news in English on MBC TV 3 did not mention about FELLENG. These are classified as errors and omissions. They are contrary to the objectives of the Early Warning System and of the concept of Mitigation. However, the floods of Queensland- Australia were mentioned at each bulletin, both in Hindustani and in English.

The same scenario was repeated on Best FM today Tuesday. The Australian disaster was repeated each time, while ignoring the potential havoc just under the nose. Do you imagine the extent to which your MBC is unable to fulfill its role of broadcasting the crucial news to the people of this republic, including non-residents and tourists? Your media, like others, is supposed to channel information from a source to an audience. The Meteorological Services has already provided the news about FELLENG. Why your Best FM and your MBC TV 3 News are unable to fulfill their respective roles in transmitting such important information, in order to sensitize on awareness and preparedness, in view of mitigating the impacts of disasters? Do you remember the quotation I cited in my different correspondences to you and to your predecessor? : "Disaster reduction is not simply a matter of sophisticated technology and hardware: at root, it is also a matter of communication and education... We need better ways of communicating accurate information to the people in need of such information"- Mr. JAN EGELAND, UN Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs at Grand Baie Conference 2005 (which I had attended).

What is the use of acquiring sophisticated equipment and employing dozens of personnel as input and delivering such a poor and lamentable output by refraining to inform and educate the public?

FELLENG is roaming in our zone where Agalega, St. Brandon, Tromelin and Rodrigues form the integral territory of Mauritius. It should be an issue concerning everyone, especially that, our citizens are living in these islands (except in Tromelin). This Cyclone is in a dangerous position, capable of changing its trajectory in our direction. According to my observations, this Intense Cyclone FELLENG resembles DUMILE 01-05 January 2013. It should be noted that FELLENG has caused lots of disasters in Seychelles. Any disaster is always followed by a trail of impacts-economic, social and diseases. A cyclone does not only mean extreme wind and rain, but also triggers floods, mudslides, foams, heat waves, swollen sea waves and river flows, loss of live and of property, damages etc.

Australia has recently suffered from foams from the ocean. Foams are very poisonous and affect health. You may recall that on 25 October 2010, the Disaster Management Committee could not handle the Tsunami that occurred in Southern Sumatra, as a result of which fishing boats were damaged in Rodrigues and greater havoc was caused in Reunion Island.
