The Summer Season 2017-2018 of the South Indian Ocean continues to prevail in a dynamic way. Series of Tropical Disturbances, Depressions and Cyclones: AVA, IRVIN, BERGUITTA coupled with Extreme, Heavy and Light Rains are influencing calamitously, since New Year 2018, Madagascar, Reunion, Mauritius and Rodrigues. There is no doubt that the Weather Patterns of this zone have altered as compared to preceding years. The Dynamics of Climate, Weather and Hydrology are crystal clear during the Summer Season 2017-2018.
After the Torrential Rains of 24-25 January 2018 in Mauritius, another Tropical Disturbance has taken birth. 91S INVEST, “NOW LOCATED NEAR 9.8S 82.1E, APPROXIMATELY 585NM EAST-SOUTHEAST OF DIEGO GARCIA”, is in the ‘pipeline’.

Dissipated in Mozambique Channel on 21 January 2018

The Dynamics of Climate, Weather and Hydrology are crystal clear in Southern Indian Ocean during the Summer Season 2017-2018. A series of cyclones: AVA, IRVIN, BERGUITTA and a trail of Precipitations in Madagascar, Reunion, Comoros, Mayotte, Rodrigues and Mauritius have evolved since New Year 2018. All these Weather Events have caused lots of Disasters in the respective Islands.
On one hand, Intense Tropical Cyclone BERGUITTA is cruising South-Westwards at a phenomenal speed of more than 31km/h (17 knots), as indicated by the last Advisories of Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC). It is now in the South of Madagascar transiting as an Extra-Tropical Cyclone, after influencing destructively Mauritius, Reunion and Rodrigues. On the other side, Tropical Disturbance ‘99S INVEST’ which Failed to intensify, since 15 January 2018, is taking a Re-birth in the Mozambique Channel. This is the ‘Hot Spot’of the South-West Indian Ocean Basin. There is some indication that Cyclogenesis is probable during the coming days.

The transition from Summer to Winter Season for the Northern Hemisphere seems to prolong. Very Severe Cyclonic Storm OCKHI, evolving in the Arabian Sea, continues to cause lots of disasters both on land and in the ocean. At the same time a ‘Well-Marked Low Pressure’ is in formation in the Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Press Release at 13.30 pm today 04 December 2017. A series of calamities are forecast for Southern India.
Deep Depression in South-West Sri Lanka
Intensifies as Very Severe Cyclonic Storm OCKHI

India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre (RSMC) of Southern Asia, has issued its Advisories regarding the formation, since 29 November 2017, of a Deep Depression in the zone between Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka. The System is highly likely to intensify during a few days and serious damages are forecast for Sri Lanka, India and Comorin-Laksdweep Archipelago in the Arabian Sea.
