DANILO 4th Cyclone for South Indian Ocean

Moving slowly and expecting

Fujiwhara Effect with another Twin System

The Mauritius Meteorological Services (MMS) named, around 3.00 pm of New Year 01 January 2021, one of the two Tropical Depressions located in the Eastern Zone of South Indian Ocean, as DANILO Moderate Tropical Storm. The System was almost stationary. As at 10.00 am on Saturday 02 January 2021, the storm located in the South of Diego Garcia, evolved slowly towards the North. It was 1840 km and 1360 North-East of Mauritius and Rodrigues respectively.

The twin systems appear to experience Fujiwhara Effect (interaction and fusion)  in a few days’ time, given their closeness- positioned at 15.0° South and 78.7° East and 10.5° South and 72.0° East. However, for the time being, DANILO MTS is tracking slowly towards the North, while the Tropical Depression is moving West-South-West at 10 kph evolution.

The Mauritius Meteorological Services (MMS issued its bulletin  today 02 January 2021 as follows:

[[[At 1000 hours this morning, the moderate tropical storm Danilo was centered around the point 10.5 degrees South in latitude and 72.0 degrees East in longitude, at about 1840 km to the north-east of Mauritius. It is moving slowly to the north…

Moreover, a tropical depression is evolving around the point 15.0 degrees South in latitude and 78.7 degrees East in longitude.
These two systems will not influence the weather in our region for the moment
.]]]

Météo-France-Réunion which is the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre for South Indian Ocean has forecast tracks of both the Twin Systems, pending the Fujiwhara Effect.

It appears that the Forecast Track and Intensity will definitely be uncertain after the Fujiwhara Effect. However, the evolution of the combined effect of both Systems will have dangerous impacts in the Mascarene Islands-Mauritius, Rodrigues and Reunion.
